Importance Of Distance Education

Sunday, December 30, 2012
Distance education is the most preferred medium of education today. This is because many working professionals and students either do not have time to go to a traditional college or University and attend the classes or do not have enough money to spend on a course. The growing popularity of distance education has brought many changes in it. There has been a lot of development in the way of its presentation and its access.

Many people who have landed up in working with different organizations without higher qualifications opt to enroll in an online program and earn a degree like an online MBA to grow their career. Most of the multinational companies encourage their employees to join and earn degrees for their career growth. This would in turn bring profits to the companies. Programs like 'Study and Work', 'Earn while you Learn' are offered by these companies.

The distance learning programs are no more the way it used to be in the past. Course materials were sent by post or by courier but now, these materials are sent online to a candidate's mail box directly. These course materials may be Microsoft word documents, power point presentations or PDF files. Moreover, in such online learning there are many benefits that a student can avail. There is a great flexibility of time and place. A student can access the course online from any place and at any time. Online classes are also given, that is virtual classes are arranged where in a student is provided with a user name and password. Using this username and password, a student can log into the website of the University or institution that offers such distance education.

The Universities that offer such distance education take care in resolving the queries of the candidates. They also intimate about the timings of the virtual classes which are usually in the mornings or evenings. This is because working professionals can attend these classes. However, there are some basic requirements that a student should have. He or she should have the basic computer knowledge, should have the necessary software installed in the computer to open the files sent by the Universities. And last but not the least, to access the audio and video access of online training, he or she should know the technical knowledge to plug in the necessary accessories like a head phone etc.

Distance education in this new face of enhanced technology has proved to be very helpful to all the candidates who find it difficult to travel long distance and attend classes in a traditional college. It has also been helpful to those who could not afford a lot of money in enrolling in a renowned business school. Online MBA has been in a boom in the recent times and many candidates from across the world are being benefitted with this form of learning.

The Importance of Education in Today's Society

Thursday, October 25, 2012
So, do you believe that EDUCATION is absolutely necessary in today's society? Does being educated make a significant difference in someone's life?

Education is the process of learning and acquiring knowledge at school from a teacher, receiving knowledge at home from a parent, a family member, and even an acquaintance. Education is a key that allows people to move up in the world, seek better jobs, and succeed in life. Education is one factor that affects job positions people hold, advance in their further career, the income they make, and the title they hold. The more educated a person is, the more prestige and power that person holds.

However, unfortunately we have places in the world, where not everyone has an opportunity or chance to receive formal education. India is amongst the countries, where there is a high population of people who are illiterate. Almost, 55% of the population in India is illiterate. Partly, because most of the country resides in villages and not in cities, where education is more prevalent. Most of the people living in villages spend majority of their time in cultivating crops and harvesting their fields and don't find it necessary to be educated in order to harvest their fields or to do household chores. The girls living in villages marry at a young age and later get busy with family and doing household chores. According to Indian belief, girls commonly get married at an early age and are advised to stay home and take care of the household instead of studying or working. That's the reason why lot of parents in India are worried about getting their daughter married rather than her education. I can give you an example in my own life. When I was in India I wanted to get further education and fulfill my dream. On contrary to what society thinks, I wanted to pursue my career in the health care field to serve my own community. The support from my family, especially my grandfather, gave me the strength to keep my dream alive. I was 18 years old when we moved to the United States, and the transition to a country that is different culturally, academically, and politically was not easy. I did not know what I could do with my life when I came to the States. The transition was difficult for my parents as well. The need for finding a business, concern about my sibling's education and me and adjusting in a new environment was definitely challenging. After doing most of college in India, it was hard for me to start over my college education. My dad's brother, who is a physician, inspired me to keep my dream alive to pursue a career in medicine. I started my education at the community college, where I struggled with most of my classes in the first year as the educational system was different than the one I was used to. I joined clubs and other organizations at the college to know more about the medical careers. I got the knowledge that I required for pursuing a career in medicine but still, I had never experienced how things are in the real world of medicine. I have done everything that I could to help me fulfill my dream. I am currently an Emergency Medical Technician and I enjoy working in the allied health field.

I think being educated is the most important thing not only for success in one's life, but the better educated population plays an important role in making a nation more successful and well rounded. Receiving formal education is vital, but to achieve success in life, informal education is essential. One can learn English, History, Math, Science in school, and be "book-smart". Furthermore, one can learn how to live life by knowing what to say when, acting a certain way in specific situation, and be "street-smart". You can have all the "book" knowledge in the world about a certain profession, but if you don't know how to behave with your colleagues and your superiors than having "book" knowledge won't take you too far. For example, if you are a Physician by profession, you have all the knowledge about the world of medicine and know much about health care, but if you do not have bed side manners and don't interact well with your patients, co-workers, and the team, than what's the point of having all "book" knowledge. To achieve success in life and reaching a point in life where people respect you for what you are is what makes a difference, because at that point you excel in both formal and informal education. Education is very important and no one should be deprived of it.

"No nation can leave its security only to the Police and the Army, to a large extent national security depends upon the education of citizens, their knowledge of affairs, their characters and sense of discipline and their ability to participate effectively in security measure." - Kothari commission

A well educated population represents a well secured, well developed, strong Nation.

Charmi Patel is a home business author, student, and an EMT.

She thinks that education is a vital element in making one's life successful. She wants to share with everyone how important education is in today's society and that no one should be deprived of education. A more educated population plays a vital tole in success of the nation.

Dynamism of Educational System

Education is an important aspect in the country today. It shapes the individual and hence the country as a whole. The earlier emphasis was on primary and secondary education. With time, tertiary education has been enhanced as well; the measures have been taken in the same regard. The requirements include capita, syllabus pertaining to the latest advances subject - wise and the set up balanced with the socio-economic status of the country.

Higher education is made available to students by both the government and private funding bodies. At a time when the government funding is backed by poor infrastructure, facilities as well as a drive to pool in students to venture into the new facility and uptake higher education, the education commission decided to bring in the private and foreign collaborations. As a result, although there has been an increase in the number of student enrollments, educational institutions and employability of mentors over the years there is a long way ahead before the significance of higher education sets into the mind of the youth.

The deferring opinions amongst students with regard to a higher degree and the wavering economic pattern in the country could be relatable. The ideal aim of any student who decides to master in their respective stream is to utilize their learnt skills productively alongside learning newer ones. Skilled and trained personnel are the ones who're hired at top companies and industries and there is an urgent need to increase the number of such preferred lot. Recession hit the country in the year 2009 and its effects imparted damaging consequences. Although, it is a wise decision to take up a study course so as to make the most of the situation during a depression, it is devastating to remain unemployed after possessing a higher qualification. With the job scenario being unpredictable, such is the case and a large number of intellectual pools are redundant. The number of jobs is on a low and at times the companies prefer hiring a person of a lower degree thereby bringing a restraint on the financial aspect.

Such dynamism can lead to an unpredictable student enrollment number in the near future. The private funded bodies have a better student intake with regard to the government funded ones as the set framework is tight. Such a change could be adopted by the government funded structures with an intention to improve the student number. While the government funded bodies have poor facilities, the private pose a higher educational fee. Although, such is afforded by the upper middle class and affluent lot of students, the ones belonging to a poor economic background are affected. The right to a good quality education is for all without a divide and hence many changes need to be introduced to bring system of order in educational set up.

A change can always be uncomfortable especially when least expected. Once it is embraced, the alteration and its effects can be balanced. The same applies to any sector, even education. Higher education pattern needs to change because its aim is to hone people of the given skills and build their career to a lasting degree creating dynamism in their approach and understanding.

The Flexibility Of An Online Education

Consider your current career. Now, add a traditional education to your current work schedule. It's impossible to organize, isn't it? Well, that doesn't have to be the problem anymore. For business people who want higher education, they no longer have to add the schedule of a traditional education (visiting a campus) to their current work schedule. Now, online classes are available and provide the greatest flexibility possible. Never attend another class on a campus. Sit down at home with your computer and get the education you want.

Online business degree programs are tailored to fit your schedule. Take as many classes as you can, depending on your work schedule, and finish the degree at your convenience. If you have less time, don't worry because you can take fewer classes and still receive the degree you want. Sit down, look at your schedule and decide how much time you have to dedicate to your education. Once you know, then you can plan. Take your planned schedule and begin to speak to advisors and look for classes that work with your schedule. You will find the classes you need.

The greatest benefit of online classes is the ability to complete coursework whenever you have time. Come in from work, eat some dinner and relax, and then get started on your coursework. Work at your own pace and know what you need to get done for the class. Build yourself a schedule for what you need to accomplish and finish the class with great performance. Having the flexibility to take class online around your work schedule is the best part. Never miss out on the career you are in, continue to make money for your expenses and climb the work ladder with your developing education.

What do you think about the flexibility? Thousands of people are signing up a year to take classes online because they allow them to continue with their life and receive education at the same time. Flexibility is key in such a busy world. Whether you are raising a family or single, the flexibility is great for everyone. No one should leave a quality position to return to school and risk losing that position forever. Keep your position and get educated at the same time.

Is it for you? If you're not sure at this point, take time to consider all the details of an online education. When you learn more and speak to others about it, then you can make an educated decision.

Effects of Technology on Education

Education has changed significantly in the last twenty years. One of the main reasons education has undergone so many changes is because of technological development. In 1990, computers and other forms of technology served a minimal role in the classroom. Today, many if not most college students attend class with a laptop. I am writing about some of the biggest advantages technology gave to education.

Technology has made research much easier. Before online Encyclopedias, Google Scholar, JSTOR, and other online research tools were available, students were forced to spend numerous hours in the library. With the new tools, students can conduct research faster in the comfort of their homes. With Google and other search engines, students can find relevant information faster and more efficiently. Also, there is no more need for intensive memorization as information is more readily available.

New also technology allows for a faster, more efficient, and more interactive classroom experience. With Powerpoint presentations and projectors, there is no need for blackboards and whiteboards. With clickers, students can take quizzes during the classroom.

These developments also help improve tutoring services. Online tutoring programs are becoming available. One-on-one in-home tutoring programs are also being aided these developments. Tutors can bring laptops to sessions allowing them to look up information, and show examples to the student more easily.

Wi-fi technology allows students to study in more comfort and a more ergonomic setting.

New mathematical software such as Maple and Mathematica allows students to make a computer algebra computations more easily. Software like Matlab and Scilab allows students to make numerical computations more easily. There is no more need for a line rule. Advanced Texas Instrument and Casio calculators allow students to solve equations and produce graphs. Online software such as Webassign allows students to submit mathematics assignments online with instant feedback.

The internet allows students to read books and educational supplements at home. There is no need to go to a bookstore or library. Since many of these sources are open source or funded by advertising, students can access these materials for free. Wikipedia, Wikibooks are good examples. Students can learn more without leaving their house.

College applications and job applications can now be complete online. Students can deliver important paperwork to universities and employers at a much faster rate.

Online education allows more students to get an education. Handicapped students, students that have to travel a lot, and students with jobs can now complete their degrees wherever they go with a flexible schedule and often at their own pace. Due to its lower costs, online education also benefits lower-income students.

Technological development allowed the creation of new IT jobs and improved economic development in general.

Not all effects of technology on education are positive. Technology also allows students to cheat more easily. However, new technology allows instructors to detect plagiarism. Technological developments can also discourage critical thinking since answers are more readily available. Technology also encourages students to spend their time doing other activities such as playing video games and participating in social networking.

Overall, technological development in the 1990s and 2000s appears to be beneficial to education. Currently, technology improvement follows Moore's law which states that computers become twice as efficient approximately every two years. Today, one can purchase a well performing personal computer (without a monitor, software, and other accessories) for as low as $123.99. Recently, I have not spent over $250 on a desktop computer and it allowed me to do very advanced computations like high-sample Monte Carlo algorithms. If the trend continues, students all over the world will be able to afford desktops and laptops contributing to a better global education.

When it comes to obtaining the best possible education it is important to contemplate all of your choices. If you can get a high quality education in one of the most outstanding holiday destinations in the world then why not take advantage of it?

A number of people look at the Sunshine Coast of Australia and think party and you know that they are accurate but just because it is a place filled with wonderful weather, fabulous beaches, and fine food and spirits doesn't mean that you can't get a solid education in between all the fantastic times. When it comes to getting an education the University of the Sunshine Coast offers not only a great location but also has a lot to present as far as the academics are concerned.

It originally launched in 1996 with only 524 students, the enrollment in 2011 exceeded 7,700 students, and that goes to show how much this university has increased in popularity in such a short period of time. And while the location lends itself to some after hour's fun and weekend adventures this place is also one that offers many positive learning experiences particularly in the areas of botany, hospitality, and research. Some of the people who are considered top of their field are teaching at USC.

The school is known not only for its sensible class size but also its diversity of classes and degree programs with something to fit just about everyone's needs. Still small enough to supply the personalized touch most at the University of the Sunshine Coast feel that they are not only receiving a quality education but that they are also being offered many chances to advance themselves that they couldn't receive in a larger University somewhere else.

With so many impressive opportunities it is no wonder that USC is growing in popularity not only within the Queensland of Australia but throughout the entire planet. Students are learning that they can not only come to Australia and work and play in their down time but also receive a quality education as well. Many students that resolve to relocate to the Sunshine Coast just to complete their higher education usually wind up staying because they fall in love with it. The Sunshine Coast is by far one of the finest locations in the world to relocate to. Whether for work or play, education or retirement, this region is one that people quickly learn to love.

Six Types of Deductible Continuing Education

Saturday, June 9, 2012
In this article we would like to talk about continuing your education as a business professional. There are many things you can do to learn more about your trade, and many of them are also tax deductible, so they can save you money in the long run. So let's talk about six types of continuing education that are deductible on your taxes.

1. College classes. Taking college classes to improve or maintain your business is tax deductible for your business. The cost of tuition, books, class fees, materials and supplies, and the gas or mileage to get there are all deductible.

2. Seminars. Throughout the year there are many seminars put on by many different organizations on many topics. Most of them charge a fee to attend. Some give credit if your type of professional license requires it and some do not. But regardless of whether credit is given or not, if it is a seminar about something that can help you as a business owner, it is considered continuing education. The fees to attend and travel expenses are all deductible.

3. Trade shows. A trade show is a show that has vendors with products and services that can help your business. The most common trade shows are in the construction industry, but there are many other types of trades and businesses that have them. Attending these shows helps you to keep updated on current products that can be helpful to your business. Again the entrance fees and travel expenses are deductible.

4. Vendor sponsored events. Businesses you work with or purchase product from sometimes sponsor events. Sometimes they are to promote their product or service and sometimes they are just helpful events to get you to like them. Either way the goal of the event is to teach you something. These events are often fun as well as informative, but they are still considered continuing education and the same things are deductible.

5. Conferences. As accountants, we attend a conference sponsored by the IRS every year in order to obtain credits to keep our license current. This conference is never closer than 600 miles away. They have them all over the country, so we always choose the one that is the most convenient for us. There are many types of conferences for many types of businesses. Conferences generally have classes you can attend about various subjects pertinent to your profession. They also often have a banquet and networking sessions to help you connect with others. Sometimes there are even sightseeing excursions you can take advantage of. Conferences can be both informative as well as fun and definitely fall into the continuing education category. Many people take their families with them and do fun things in the evenings or in between conference sessions.

6. Educational events you sponsor for your employees. It is important to keep your employees educated and informed as well as keeping moral up. Many companies hold events for their employees for those purposes. Some have a weekend retreat and some go on a cruise. The most important thing about this is to have some sort of training experience while at the event. Anything the company pays for such as transportation, food, lodging, or educational materials is tax deductible for the business. Anything the employee pays for is deductible to the employee.

We Need Better Education to Train People for New Jobs, but Isn't That Corporate Welfare

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

It is interesting that in the United States, all the politicians tell us that they are going to help provide more jobs for Americans. The first thing they point to is the notion that Americans are not qualified and trained, or educated properly for the new jobs in the new era of our growing economy and fast-paced innovative world. The reality is there is always new innovation, and the jobs do change, and therefore the training must also change. What bothers me about these podium pushing politicians that get up there and tell us these things, is that to pay for this, they wish to raise our taxes.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to pay anymore taxes, and I don't like the inefficient way that our state and federal government runs its affairs. It's a bloated bureaucracy and it is highly inefficient. Maybe the government needs to go back to training, and maybe the politicians need to get a life. Secondly, and I have another comment, and this one is more serious. Do you know why politicians whether Republican or Democrat always claim that the problem is education, and to get more jobs, we need more money in education?

It's simple, because the teachers unions are supported by the Democrats. And many of the corporations support the Republicans. The corporations would love to have all of their labor pre-trained and ready to work the day they start. And they would love for someone else to do it. The teachers of course would like to have lots of work, guarantee employment, and excellent benefits.

Today, we spend more money per child in education than any other country in the world. Yes, we have one of the best educational systems around the globe, but as far as costs are concerned, we aren't doing it as efficiently as we should.

Maybe we need to train ourselves to be more efficient, rather than training employees to be more prepared to go to work in future corporations, at the expense of the taxpayer. You see, it is corporate welfare to train people for vocational jobs, and to train them for anything more than the bare minimum needed to work in these corporations. And what about the small businesses pay so much in taxes, so that education can train people to work for their corporate competitors, thus, limiting the labor supply and causing a hardship for them?

Further, it is totally unfortunate to keep raising tuition costs on college students, making an economically enslaved the day they graduate, meaning they will be loyal employees at those corporations, because they can't leave.

One of the problems in modern corporations today is that the labor force moves from job to job too quickly, the average person changes jobs every 2.3 years. The corporations would like to keep them longer, although they tend to lay them off, when they are no longer needed during the business cycle downturn, or to improve their stock price. If corporations want employees better trained to do those jobs, then they need to be the ones paying for it.

Next, we need competition in education, and no more free rides. Further, the federal government needs to get out of the education business, and stop telling communities in school districts how to teach. If the federal government knew how to teach people how to do things, that they wouldn't be so screwed up themselves - are you starting to see my point? If anyone in the world, and I'm talking anyone on the Internet has a problem with what I'm saying, you may shoot me an e-mail, but be sure to come with your facts and research, because I have mine, and it is solid as a rock.

Earn a Faith Based Education From a Lutheran College Online

Friday, June 1, 2012
One of the major principles of the American Founding Fathers was the belief in a separation of church and state. This belief stretches across all sectors of American life including public education. However, the two do not have to be mutually exclusive. It is possible to find an education that is true to your faith and the tradition of your church by attending a Lutheran college.

There are roughly 44 Lutheran colleges and universities in the United States and Canada; and all of them offer students the chance to pursue a higher education that is founded upon the values and beliefs of the church. There are even chances for students to earn an education through an academic institution online, opening the chance for an education to even more individuals in more locations.

Lutheran colleges don't offer a different education from that of their public university counterparts, but they do have a different emphasis. The goal of these online colleges is to provide students with an education that nurtures their faith in the Spirit of God. Students at online colleges are provided with an education in an environment that views them as separate individuals of faith, not just numbers on an attendance sheet.

Many academic institutions of this type are capable of providing small class sizes, often with student-to-teacher ratios that hover around 10-to-1. Earning an education from a Lutheran college online provides a student with even more personalized education, even if they are rarely on campus. The goal of an online education is no different; with a curriculum that is still founded in the beliefs and values of the Lutheran church, online degrees are simply offered through different mediums and with a far less focus on specific times.

If you think a Lutheran college education is too expensive, you should reconsider. Although tuition rates at some schools may be higher than other, larger public institutions; it does not mean that it is out of reach for most individuals. Many colleges offer students financial aid, with some schools reporting as many as 80% of their students receiving tuition assistance. Because these colleges focus on providing students with a solid education in a timely manner, students often finish their degrees faster than their public university counterparts.

Before you settle for any higher education, give some thought to the type of education that will make you a better person spiritually as well as mentally.

Top Trends in Education

Thursday, May 3, 2012
There have been a lot of changes in the education world over the past few years. The government has been cracking down on for-profit schools and their enrollment practices. Large Universities have started to launch more online degree programs and competition is fiercer than ever before. There have also been budget cuts in state schools leading to layoffs in multiple departments. Most schools are doing more with less. In many schools enrollments have increased so it is weird to see the budget cuts taking place. For schools that have not developed online courses they are hurting the most. The education industry is counter-cyclical; meaning when the economy is doing well and people have jobs enrollments in schools actually decrease. On the other hand, when the economy is in a slump or recession more students go back to school. They feel they have to get a degree to be more competitive when searching for a job or impress their boss to keep their job.

Even though online education has increased over the years, there were a couple of schools doing business unethically, according to the United States Government. The government felt Kaplan University and University of Phoenix were enrolling students that were not necessarily qualified for their online degree programs. They would admit the students and help them with all of their financial aid paperwork. Unfortunately, the students were not passing the courses which led to them defaulting on their student loans. So the students were incurring debt, late fees, and not receiving their degrees. This was a big issue according to the government and their investigations. They went in and cleaned house so to say. Both schools had to lay off employees due to the government's findings.

Online degree programs have had their share of criticism over the years, but that hasn't slowed them down. Now that state Universities are launching online programs the public view an online degree as equivalent to a campus program the majority of the time. Because schools like Boston University, Penn State, and University of Cincinnati offer online classes and degree programs employers are starting to accept more and more degrees completed online.

In summary, even though enrollments in online degree programs are up some schools are feeling the heat. They have since altered their enrollment practices to stay compliant with the United States Government. State schools are offering more and more online programs to stay competitive in the market and increase their revenue. And finally, remember the education industry is counter-cyclical so if enrollments are down it could be because the unemployment rate is also down.

Choosing Online Massage Therapy Continuing Education Courses

Wednesday, May 2, 2012
A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is similar to a credit, in that a specific amount must be accrued to meet the requirements for maintaining a certification-just as credits are required for degrees or certificates. A single CEU is made up of ten hours of training. This unit of measurement enables students to maintain accurate records of further instruction undertaken in their field. This is often needed for the purposes of demonstrating to employers, state licensing authorities and various other relevant third parties that they are engaged in an ongoing program of educational development. In the case of massage therapists seeking to maintain and improve both their practical skills and industry credentials, massage therapy continuing education courses are vitally important.

Participation in a massage therapy program of continuing development does not result in an academic qualification, for instance a degree or diploma. Its main purpose is to enable the therapist to keep up to date with the latest findings and treatments as they are released, and maintain their certification and licensing.

Different Types of Courses

Apart from the hands on aspects that massage therapy involves, a continuing education course may provide other relevant benefits, such as business skills, book keeping, methods of marketing, and client profiling. This arsenal of skills is essential in assisting a therapist run a thriving practice with a healthy balance sheet, while at the same making certain that client needs are met.

The Convenience of Online Study

It is possible to attend classes in a formal teaching environment such as at a salon's training academy, or alternatively home and online learning routes are also both available. In this case, the student receives the learning materials for the course by post or email. For obvious reasons, most professional chose to take their CEU courses online. This may seem intriguing as a massage therapy course would be expected to be mainly practical in nature. Don't forget that many procedures can be demonstrated by DVD and online video modules. For the parts of the course that are theoretical in nature, textbooks and online written guides are the main study aids.

Ranging from simple and high level physiology to the process of determining and treating different types of physical conditions, many different massage therapy continuing education courses are available on a variety of topics. The therapist with a specialty in treatments suited to a day spa environment is unlikely to seek further education in an area such as Fibromyalgia. In the same way, someone working in the area of massage for pregnancy may not be interested in training regarding the treatment of HIV patients.

Broadening Horizons

Participation in a well rounded learning program is beneficial for any therapist who does not wish to restrict their massage therapy career opportunities. Being in possession of a wide range of skills improves their chances of advancement within the industry. By being involved in further massage therapy education to broaden their basic range of services, the trainee will be more appealing to new employers and clients alike.

The following are examples of the different types of further education courses in massage therapy that can be taken by students online:

* Thai Massage
* Reflexology
* Sports Massage
* Cranial-Sacral Massage
* Ethical Case Management
* Hot Stone Massage
* Aromatherapy
* Advanced Anatomy and Pathology
* Prenatal Massage fundamentals
* Deep Vein Thrombosis

Many employers don't even consider candidates who do not participate in regular training development. Notwithstanding the appeal of accelerating your career advancement, the individual who invests in ongoing learning will always improve their standing and authority as a respected massage therapist.

One of the first questions to answer is what type of continuing education is best. Some courses simply help the student to acquire practical skills to complement a former course of study. These newly acquired skills are highly valued in the world of industry, even though they may have been obtained through a non-accredited university. Other programs offer college credit plus a certificate; some award only the certificate. Of equal importance is the selection of the area of study. Courses are as varied as real estate, information technology, biotechnology, education, nursing, business, science, math, ecology, and human rights. Some classes are geared more toward life-long learning than a specific academic category. Both the type of program and the choice of courses depend on the purpose for continuing education. Does the learner desire to qualify for a new job, change careers, get a promotion, stay updated on new developments within the present career, or explore an entirely new field? Perhaps the adult student wants to earn credits for re-certification in the educational field, stimulate professional growth, or just deepen an area of personal interest. Most programs ensure that the individual will gain the knowledge and skills needed, plus provide a credential valued in the work place.

Several options are available for the learning format of the course, which is the third step in the process of customizing an educational program. The adult selects a strategy suited to his schedule and learning style: online learning, on-campus programs, or blended courses that combine biweekly or monthly classroom experiences on campus with online course material that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Both types may include networking with other students and with professors. Some courses start quarterly; others may begin every few weeks. Often the instructors, whether in the classroom or online, hold advanced degrees and have experience in the fields that they teach. Building an adult education certificate program around the type of course needed, area of study chosen and personal classroom preference is one way for the student to respond to the current demand for trained, updated professionals who have the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in today's world.
